Toronto Pearson Airport Preps for Busy Summer Travel Season: Expert Tips

Toronto Pearson Airport is gearing up to welcome an influx of passengers this summer, as the busiest travel season of the year swings into high gear. With peak travel days on the horizon, the airport has partnered with several key agencies to provide tips to make your summer travel as smooth as possible.

On June 20, the airport authority teamed up with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), and United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) to share their expert advice on navigating the summer rush at Toronto Pearson.

Record-Breaking Passenger Volumes Expected
Toronto Pearson is set to welcome over 160,000 passengers per day on peak travel days this summer, an 8% increase from 2023 volumes. With over 1,100 flights anticipated on the busiest days, that's a 3% jump from last year. Notably, peak travel months for the airport are July and August, but an uptick in travelers is already being observed in June and is expected to continue into September.

Make the Most of Digital Tools to Streamline Travel
With higher-than-normal passenger volumes, using digital tools can significantly enhance your travel experience. Here are some handy tools and tips:

YYZ Express: Reserve your spot in the security line up to 72 hours in advance. This allows you to breeze through shorter security lines and save time.

Mobile Passport Control: Introduced by USCBP, this app lets travelers digitally submit their information, simplifying departures for those traveling to the U.S.
Drop-Off Tips: Avoid traffic congestion by dropping passengers at Viscount station, just outside the airport. From there, a free train takes travelers to Terminals 1 and 3.

Live Wait Times Dashboard: Check real-time information about security and boarding wait times before heading to the airport.

Peak Travel Times Dashboard: Find out if you're traveling during particularly busy times so you can plan accordingly.

Advance Declaration: Offered by CBSA, this lets travelers submit customs and immigration declarations up to 72 hours before arriving in Canada, granting access to an express lane in the customs area.

Parking Reservations: Register online to park your car at Toronto Pearson, ensuring a guaranteed spot.
Operational Updates: Follow Toronto Pearson on X for any key operational updates.

Timing is Everything
Don’t forget the golden rule of airport arrivals: Passengers should aim to arrive at Toronto Pearson three hours before an international flight and two hours before a domestic flight.

With these handy tips and tools, your summer travel through Toronto Pearson will be as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. Happy travels!
